Scotty Pugh
Pugh is the first member of Abilene Cooper’s back-to-back state championship baseball teams in 1987 and 1988 to be selected to the Hall of Fame, but he may best be remembered as a remarkable three-sport star. He was a four-year starter at first base in baseball, leading District 4-5A in home runs as a freshman. But Pugh was also a three-year starter at quarterback in football and a three-year starter at point guard in basketball for Cooper, earning all-state honors in baseball and all-district in football and basketball. He was a three-year starter at first base at the University of Texas and led the Southwest Conference in batting average as a freshman. Pugh made it as far as Double-A in the San Diego Padres’ organization. He is now a high school football coach at Granbury.
