Jim Reese was Abilene High’s quarterback in 1970 and 1971 and led the district in passing and total offense. In baseball, he was an all-district second baseman at Abilene High and led the Eagles to three consecutive district championships. Reese then went to ACU, where he led the Lone Star Conference in passing and total offense as a junior and senior. During his three years as the starting quarterback, ACU posted a record of 23-8-1. He holds ACU’s school single-game passing record with 564 yards. He was selected the All-Texas NAIA quarterback as a senior and was voted the MVP of the team. Reese earned District Coach of the Year accolades 3 different times. Reese’s 1994 Abilene High baseball team went to the playoffs for the first time since Reese was a senior. Reese concluded his career as the head softball coach at Abilene High, compiling a 74-30-2 record in four seasons. He led the Lady Eagles to the regional quarterfinals three times.
