The Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame is hosting a book signing event at the museum for the newly released book “Bubba Ephraim: Black Texas Basketball Trailblazer.”
Former Abilene Christian University sports information director Garner Roberts has written an inspirational new book that chronicles the previously untold story of a basketball pioneer who broke the color barrier in Texas basketball.
Bubba Ephriam grew up in the West Texas town of Pecos and became the first Black to play in the UIL state basketball tournament in 1957, nearly a decade before most Texas schools integrated.
Roberts and Ephriam, who now lives in Abilene, will be at the Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame Museum in the Mall of Abilene from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24. The public is invited to come and meet Ephriam and Roberts and purchase of copy of the book.
