Jason Marshall, Abilene, was a four-year starting shortstop at Cooper and a key member of the 1987 and 1988 Class 5A state championship teams. The 1987 team was ranked by USA Today as the No. 1 high school baseball team in the nation. He then went to Texas A&M, where he was a three-year starter at shortstop. As a senior, Marshall led the Aggies in hits, runs, RBI and games played and was named the team’s MVP. He was drafted in the 13th round of the Major League baseball draft by the Kansas City Royals in 1992 and then played four years in the Royals organization, rising to the Class Double-A level. Marshall was a college assistant baseball coach at Texas A&M and McMurry before moving to UT-San Antonio for 19 years, the last seven as the Roadrunners head coach. His 2013 team won the Western Athletic Conference title and played in the NCAA tournament.
