Jerry Larned, who passed away in 2023, is a 2026 recipient of the Bill Hart Memorial Legends Award. Larned grew up playing sports in Haskell and played basketball at North Texas State. He then spent his remarkable career as a teacher, principal, coach and superintendent. He coached at Bowie, Hamlin, Duncanville, Iraan, Monahans, Sul Ross Sate and New Mexico Military before ending his career as the athletic director at McMurry University. He was named the West Texas Coach of the Year four times and is member of the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor.
Larned served as superintendent at Monahans three different times and the multi-sport athletic facility in Monahans was renamed the Jerry and Beth Larned Sports Complex in 2003.
