Gordon Wood
Wood was a 1934 graduate of Wylie High School. He began his coaching career at Rule in 1940. His coaching journey included stops at Roscoe, Seminole, Winters, Stamford, and Victoria before taking a job at Brownwood in 1960. When he finally retired as the Lions’ head football coach in 1985, Wood had won 396 games, more that any football coach in Texas high school history. He also held the record with nine state championships – two at Stamford and seven at Brownwood. He is also a member of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Deceased
