The Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame is thrilled to host the first annual Champions Celebration event on Sunday, January 22 at 2:00pm. The event, housed in the Mall of Abilene, will honor the 4 Big Country high school football teams that won state championships and the 1 Big Country school who was a state runner-up during the 2022 football season. Those teams, Hawley, Albany, Westbrook, Benjamin and Loraine will be present at this event as we celebrate their seasons.
Our plan is to gather together at 2 p.m. in the courtyard in front of the Women’s Dillard’s store. There will be a brief presentation and we will then divide into three groups rotating stations until each group has been to all three stations. Award certificates will be presented to each team member and a team picture taken, KTXS-TV has put together a video highlighting all four state championship games, and there will be a guided tour and free admission to the Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame museum.
We will also have championship T-shirts for sale at the museum, which is located next to JC Penney.
