Bill McClure
McClure, a 1939 graduate of Abilene High, spent a 47-year career in athletics, beginning first as a coach at Stamford High School and then as an assistant and later head track coach at ACU, leaving to become the head track coach at both South Carolina and LSU before finishing his career as the director of athletics at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. He was the assistant track coach for the U.S. Olympic team at the 1972 Olympics in Munich. During his career, he coached a total of 145 U.S. Track and Field Federation and NCAA all-Americans, mentoring all-America athletes in every event on the track and field schedule. He was the backfield coach on the 1950 unbeaten ACU team quarterbacked by Ted Sitton. Deceased
