The Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame is excited to house a new piece of history inside our Museum.
In 1972, the UIL held its first Six-Man football state championship game, which was won by O’Brien. 47 years ago, the O’Brien School District consolidated with Knox City, but kept the O’Brien school open as the district’s junior high. This fall, the O’Brien school was closed and the junior high students were moved into Knox City. As a result, O’Brien has donated its state championship trophy case to the Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame. Below is a picture of BCAHOF Class of 2020 Inductee C.H. Underwood, the head coach of the first Six-Man state championship team, and his assistant Benny Grill, with the trophy case. Come visit the Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame in the Mall of Abilene to see this piece of history. Click this link to see the feature local news station KTXS published on this museum addition.
